The Wenchuan Earthquake of 2008: Anatomy of a Disaster
汶川地震三周年之际,由地球物理学家陈颙院士和 David 博士合著的《2008 年汶川大地震──一场灾难的纪实》(英文版),正式出版发行。
本书内容丰富,原始资料可靠。主要特色有三点:
1. 从自然、工程和社会经济三种科学角度,客观地记录了灾害的全过程;
2. 回顾了经验和教训,针对减灾提出了独到和深刻的见解;

David C. Booth:英国地质调查局资深地震学家,长期从事全球地震学研究。
“The Wenchuan Earthquake of 2008: Anatomy of a Disaster” gives a detailed account of the damage, seismology and tectonics of the event and discusses earthquake prediction, seismic hazard and risk management, the creation and implementation of building codes, and new practices used in rescue, relief and reconstruction. It will be of significant interest to researchers and practitioners engaged in seismology, geophysics, engineering, the social sciences, and disaster management and recovery. It also offers a valuable new and unique Chinese perspective with many insights for future mitigation of earthquake risk.

Chen Yong Geophysicist, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, works for the China Earthquake Administration. From 1970’s he worked on rock physics under high temperature and high pressure. He was the director of the Institute of Geophysics (1983–1985), the deputy director-general of State Seismological Bureau (1985–1996), vice president of World Data Center-D (1986–1994) and the member of executive committee of International Seismological Center (1989–1997). He is the president of Chinese Geophysical Society. He has published more than ten textbooks and monographs, of which “The Great Tangshan Earthquake of 1976—An Anatomy of Disaster”, “Rock Physics”, “Seismic Hazard and Risk” and “Fractal Geometry” have had a significant influence both in China and in abroad.
David C. Booth Seismologist, works for the British Geological Survey. From the mid-1970s to 2010, he has worked on seismological studies of crustal structure, particularly on the detection and analysis of seismic anisotropy due to aligned crack distributions, with over 40 publications. Manager of the BGS Global Seismology Group (1995–1997), Manager of UK National Data Center for CTBT verification (1997–2002), Vice chairman of ESC Working Group on Crust and Upper Mantle Structure (2002–2006), Manager of BGS UK Geophysical Observatories (2003–2009).
